EDUCATION IS BLACK POWER

The Liberated Minds Institute (LMI) is BPI’s education program for kids and parents. Through LMI, we build knowledge, intentional community, and wellness as we work toward an emancipated and enfranchised future for Black America.

Jasmine Miller

Founder of Liberated Minds Institute

“The phrase ‘it takes a village’ is one of the fundamental pillars that Liberated Minds Institute (LMI) was founded on. The Village is not just the parents; it's also the aunties, uncles, grandparents, friends of the family, neighbors, and the community as a whole. LMI seeks to bridge the gap between the village and ALL of its members, preparing each individual to be able to advocate for an emancipated future for themselves and for the collective as well.”

LOVE OF LITERATURE Book club

Reading is the foundation of LMI. That’s why we host book clubs throughout the year to help kids develop confidence in their reading skills and bring families together through a love of books.

At our book club events, kids can:

  • Enjoy a book reading by a BPI team member

  • Practice reading skills with one-on-one support

  • Choose a book to take home

  • Enjoy a free, healthy dinner

Tutoring Sessions

When kids face a challenge, a little support might be all they need to build their resilience. Our tutoring sessions can provide that helping hand. We offer both group and one-on-one tutoring for students in grades K-9.

book drives

When the team at Winton Hills Recreation Center (WHRC) learned that the kids in their neighborhood had no access to a library during pandemic school closures, they asked BPI to help. Since 2022, we’ve collected hundreds of children’s books that reflect Black life and Black joy. And we’re excited to share those books with the Winton Hills community.
